Non-EU/EFTA skilled worker (L or B permit, quota): No fixed salary figure: pay and conditions must be customary for the location, profession and sector. The employer applies to the canton, which pre-decides, and the State Secretariat for Migration approves; Swiss, settled and EU/EFTA workers have priority, so the employer must show no suitable one was found. Permits come from annual quotas (4,500 B and 4,000 L permits in 2026).

Nursing is regulated, so a foreign diploma must be recognised by the Swiss Red Cross: a free online pre-check, then a decision within 4 months of a complete file, with fees of CHF 550 to 1,000 and German, French or Italian at B2.
