Work in Switzerland

Non-EU/EFTA skilled worker (L or B permit, quota): No fixed salary figure: pay and conditions must be customary for the location, profession and sector. The employer applies to the canton, which pre-decides, and the State Secretariat for Migration approves; Swiss, settled and EU/EFTA workers have priority, so the employer must show no suitable one was found. Permits come from annual quotas (4,500 B and 4,000 L permits in 2026).

EU/EFTA free movement (L or B permit): For EU/EFTA citizens: no quota, labour-market test or salary threshold. A contract under 12 months gets an L permit, a longer one a 5-year renewable B permit; register with the commune within 14 days, before starting work.
